As a tribute to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko
KOBZAR
The story of one book
Shevchenko’s poems became part of Ukrainian folklore and were known by heart by numberless Ukrainian peasants in the 19th century and beyond.

The film is a documentary study of Kobzar's editions, which were released during the life of Taras Shevchenko. At the center of the biographical picture is not the writer himself, but his book, whose fate is no less amazing than the fate of a person. The filmmakers will try to answer a number of important cultural questions. What is the significance of Kobzar in the context of world culture? How has the book influenced the life of the author and ordinary people?

The film was shot in Kyiv, Lviv, Cherkasy, Kaniv, Mliiv and St. Petersburg. A few months before the main premiere, the film was shown as part of the Berlin Film Festival, as well as at the non-fiction film competition in Ukraine, where the film won the main prize.
